On March 19, 2025, Indian benchmark indices ended higher, marking a third consecutive day of gains. The BSE Sensex rose by 147.79 points (0.20%) to close at 75,449.05, while the NSE Nifty increased by 73.30 points (0.32%), ending at 22,907.60.

  • Sector Performance: The broader market outperformed, with mid-cap and small-cap indices surging over 2%. However, the FMCG and IT sectors underperformed during the session.

  • Steel Stocks: Shares of JSW Steel, Tata Steel, and SAIL gained 3% to 3.7% following the government's recommendation of a 12% safeguard duty on certain steel imports to protect domestic producers from cheap imports, particularly from China.

  • Banking Stocks: State Bank of India (SBI) shares advanced by 1.09% to 745.05 rupees, though they remain 18.31% below their 52-week high of 912.10 rupees. In contrast, ICICI Bank saw a modest rise of 0.25%, and Kotak Mahindra Bank declined by 0.65%.

  • IT Stocks: Companies like Infosys and TCS experienced declines due to uncertainties regarding future earnings, especially given their significant reliance on U.S. revenues.

  • Telecom Sector: Vodafone Idea surged nearly 5% after announcing plans to explore partnerships with satellite communication providers, including Elon Musk's Starlink, to offer services in underserved areas.


Market Outlook:
