STOCK MARKET NEWS(21 MARCH 2025) WITH TOP GAINERS AND LOSERS

On March 21, 2025, Indian stock markets extended their gains for the fifth consecutive session, with the BSE Sensex rising 557.45 points (0.73%) to close at 76,905.51, and the NSE Nifty 50 advancing 159.75 points (0.69%) to settle at 23,350.40.

Key Highlights:

  • Market Performance: Both indices have demonstrated robust performance over the week, each recording a 4% gain, marking their best weekly performance since July 2022.

  • Sectoral Movements:

    • Information Technology (IT): IT stocks showed resilience, recovering from early losses. This rebound followed Accenture's quarterly results, which raised concerns about potential earnings risks and the overall demand environment.
    • Financials: Bajaj Finance's shares rose by 3.1% following the announcement of a leadership succession plan, with veteran leader and managing director Rajeev Jain being elevated to the position of vice chairman.
    • Gold Loan Providers: Manappuram Finance's stock surged 6% to a record high after Bain Capital announced plans to acquire an 18% stake in the company for $508 million. This strategic move is expected to bolster the company's management succession plans and drive growth in its gold loan segment.

  • Foreign Investment Trends: There has been a notable moderation in foreign portfolio investor (FPI) outflows, with FPIs turning buyers recently, contributing to improved market sentiment.

  • Mid and Small-Cap Stocks: These segments outperformed, with the BSE MidCap index climbing 423.56 points to 41,783.26, and the BSE SmallCap index surging 821.49 points to 47,166.08.

  • Defense Sector: Defense stocks rose by up to 6% after the Defense Acquisition Council approved capital acquisition proposals worth over ₹54,000 crore, aiming to enhance the capabilities of the Indian Armed Forces.

Overall, the Indian stock market exhibited robust performance, driven by positive corporate developments, easing foreign investor outflows, and strong performances in mid and small-cap segments.
